DAYROOM is a works division of LUSTRE ltd. it was chartered to satisfy a requirement: sites the company insures must provide occupation. the company doctor specifies what qualifies. DAYROOM manufactures the qualifying object.

the three devices below are the first available products of this line, in a different shell. the tooling was already paid for.

THE LINE

DR-100 GRAFT

two (2) units, one battery. the LINK CABLE carries power from the donor unit to the host, so that two people play from one charge. competitive titles are recommended.

THE HOST UNIT DISPLAYS THE DONOR'S REMAINING CAPACITY. THE DONOR DISPLAYS NOTHING.

DR-140 VESSEL

the juvenile line. eleven (11) titles in the retail run. the cartridge aperture is on the underside, where a headphone jack would be, and it is not a slot. the unit asks for the one it wants and takes it from the child's hand. supervision is included & required.

THE UNIT MAY ASK FOR A TWELFTH TITLE. THERE IS NO TWELFTH TITLE. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE RELENT, NOR GIVE IT HOPE. HOPE IS TOXIC TO THE VESSEL.

DR-200 SPLIT

one (1) device, one (1) scored centre seam, and an instruction printed on the case: BEND TO SHARE. it snaps cleanly. each half powers up on a display the score line was hiding. the break is single use.

NEITHER THE PACKAGING NOR THE SEAM DISTINGUISHES THEM. WHICH HALF YOU HOLD IS DECIDED BY WHICH SIDE YOU WERE HOLDING. ATTEMPTS TO REATTACH A HALVED SPLIT UNIT WILL RESULT IN A VOID WARRANTY. RETURN FROM THE VOID IS NOT GUARANTEED.

THE CATALOGUE

a tri-fold, 297 by 210mm, folded to three panels. the leaflet is an object in the line like everything else. all objects are objects. the outer face carries the charter and the order form. the inner face carries one product per panel.

the leaflet prints no date. LUSTRE's Meridian & Co. division is the only entity in the company permitted to print one. THIS DOCUMENT CARRIES NO DATE.

OCCUPATION IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT. ENTERTAINMENT IS WHAT OCCUPATION LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT IS WORKING.

ON THE DESIGN LANGUAGE

DAYROOM is the only division in the company that speaks to a customer, so its type must do one thing no other division's does: it speaks in two voices on the same surface. barlow condensed carries everything sold to you. space mono carries everything owed to you. they never mix inside a block. they sit on the same panel and disagree
